How to Beat the Winter Blues

As temperatures drop below zero in Western Montana, we are feeling the winter blues here at VIM & VIGR headquarters. While we patiently await spring time (and the release of our new line!), we want to share a few ways to beat the blues and survive the final weeks of winter.

  • Vitamin D
    • states that Vitamin D deficiency can correspond with SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) and may cause you to feel depressed. To counteract this, go for a walk or sit by a window to enjoy the sunlight. Feeling the warmth of the rays on your face will help you forget the cold.
  • Get outside
    • Go have lunch with friends or grab a drink with your coworkers after work. Surrounding yourself with friends, new and old, brings vibrancy and laughter to dull days.
  • Read
    • Grab your favorite book and cozy up on the couch. Sit, relax, and get lost in a novel while sipping a nice warm cup of tea.

  • Rest well
    • We may not be able to hibernate through the winter, but we can nap. Making sure you get adequate amounts of sleep and have a regular sleep schedule is a natural mood booster.
  • Get active
    • It may be cold outside, but that doesn’t mean you can’t be active. According to the Huffington Post, even ten minutes of exercise can help boost your overall mood. Go to your favorite gym or turn your living room in to a make-shift gym. It will feel good to get your body moving and your summer self will thank you.

  • Cross an item off your to-do list
    • Familiar with the ever-growing to-do list of chores around the house that you never quite have time for? Allowing yourself to take the time to get one of these things crossed off your to-do list can help you feel productive and satisfied.
  • Out with the old, and in with the bold!
    • Boost your mood by adding a pop of color to your life through your wardrobe, accessories, make-up, or nail polish! For just a splash of fun, choose your favorite pair of VIM & VIGR socks and pair with a bright scarf or nail polish. Bold jewelry can always brighten up your day - and for all the gentlemen out there (we didn’t forget about you) - a colorful tie will do the trick. With vibrant hues, you can’t help but feel like spring is right around the corner.

  • Plan something to look forward to
    • Dreaming of sunnier days? Plan a vacation for the early in the summer and book your flight. Researching fun activities for your trip will make the wait fly by.
  • Smile
    • Studies conducted at the University of Montreal, as described in, show that if you smile more, you are happier. Plus – smiling is contagious so you will spread positive energy everywhere you go. Before you know it, it will be spring!

Sizing, Fabric & Compression Levels Guide

Size Chart:

We have a different sizing chart depending on the type of compression garment. Please consider your foot and calf circumference when choosing your size.

If you're in between sizes, ask yourself a few questions:
What is my body type? Will I be more comfortable in a size up or down? Take your body type into consideration when choosing a size especially if you're in between sizes.

Compression Levels:

Compression garments are made in a variety of support levels, each of which is designed to address different needs. These levels are most commonly expressed in millimeters of mercury (abbreviated as mmHg). Generally, graduated compression is displayed in ranges. The higher the numerical value, the stronger the support level indicated. For example, a 20-30 mmHg garment will offer more support and feel tighter than a 15-20 mmHg garment.

All of VIM & VIGR’s products are offered in 15-20 mmHg compression level and select styles are available in 20-30 mmHg.

How to put on compression socks:

Slip your arm into the sock until your fingers reach the toes. Your palm should be resting in the sock's heel.

Starting at the cuff, fold the sock over until it meets the heel. Make sure to fold the sock onto itself.

With the sock still inverted, pull the foot of the sock firmly onto your foot. Make sure your toes are securely in the toe pocket. Starting with the cuff, gradually roll the sock up.

Adjust so that your heel is properly positioned in the heel pocket and the cuff sits below the knee. Make sure the cuff is not pulled up too high.
