Compression Levels

Compression garments are made in a variety of support levels, each designed to address different needs. These levels are most commonly expressed in millimeters of mercury (abbreviated as mmHg). Generally, graduated compression is displayed in ranges. The higher the numerical value, the stronger the support level indicated. For example, a 20-30 mmHg garment will offer more support and feel tighter than a 15-20 mmHg garment.

All VIM & VIGR legwear is offered in a 15-20 mmHg compression level and select styles are available in 20-30 mmHg.

15-20 MMHG

Support Level: Moderate

Ideal for all-day, every day wear. Offers moderate support to reduce ankle and leg swelling, ease tired and achy legs, and aid in muscle recovery.
Commonly used for travel, mild to moderate edema, pregnancy, spider and varicose veins.

20-30 MMHG

Support Level: Moderate to Firm

20-30 mmHg is a medical grade compression level and often comes as a prescription or recommendation by a healthcare provider. Please consult with your healthcare provider before choosing this level of support.
Commonly used for moderate edema, lymphedema, Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT), pre and post-surgical applications, moderate spider and varicose veins.

30-40 MMHG

Support Level: Firm

30-40 mmHg is a prescription compression level and is often prescribed by a doctor for treating health conditions such as venous insufficiency, deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and lymphedema. Please consult with your healthcare provider before choosing this level of support.

Finally socks that fit!

Since I had a blood clot last year, my doctor recommended compression socks. I bought 2 previous pairs from other companies that didn't fit at all despite carefully measuring and ordering the "right" size. Both came up too high on my leg (I'm short, only 5'2") and cut off circulation behind the knee. But VIM&VIGR socks are perfect for me and seem very comfortable. Can't wait until travel opens up so that I can try them on an international flight!

I love wool the best, but my cotton sox are better for wide feet

I recently tried again to find wool Vim&Vigr sox, size medium, that would not scrunch my toes. I saw the new design and ordered it with high hopes. The wool sox I had a few years ago did not pull back against my toes and seemed to have a more roomy toe box. I am thinking they did not have as much nylon thread in them as more recent wool socks do, at least in the roomy toe boxes that used to be on some sox. My nylon socks purchased some time ago I quickly had to give away to my granddaughter who is a nurse. I loved the bright colors and many choices available, but didn't like the very tight stretch against my feet. They were impossibly tight against my toes and I had to keep taking off my shoes and pulling out the toe box. Your cotton sox have the least amount of nylon and seem to work the best, but I love wearing wool because it doesn't get moist like cotton does. I have very wide feet and a "Morton's toe", with the second toe being longer than the big toe. I have discovered that certain Vim&Vigr knit patterns are roomier for my feet than others, such as the cotton diamond deco M/L. Not all your cotton sox I have tried stretch like they do, accommodating my wide feet. Maybe it's the stretchy horizontal pattern. Before putting on my shoes, I must pull the toe of each sock out about 2 or 3 inches longer than my feet to keep my toes from hurting. Some designs pull back against my toes almost immediately, but others stay comfortable for a long period of time. I would really be happy to find Vim&Vigr sox that are comfortable for wide feet. I wear your sox all day every day and they do wonders for my legs in keeping down swelling. In that way they are terrific.

Comfortable for large calves

I ordered the S/M for large calves. My calves are 17 inches around and my shoe size is 7 in Women's. These are comfortable and not too tight that they cut off all circulation. I am 5'4" and have pretty short legs and the socks aren't too tall.
