5 Healthy Gifts to Give This Season

by Nick Marshall

Finding the perfect gift to give can be a challenge for the best of us. The Dutch Prime Minister once gave President George W. Bush rollerblades, while the leader of Indonesia gave Bush Senior a Komodo dragon. Neither gift was “wrong,” but they weren’t 100 percent right either. As the Christmas season approaches, we’ll inspire you and guide you with some ideas that are almost guaranteed to hit the mark. These gift ideas aren’t just about what’s in the box; they’re about nourishing and pampering the person you’re giving them to.

1. Mindful Moments

Life can be frantic. We’re spoiled for choice when it comes to things that fight for our attention, and the “hustle culture” loved by entrepreneurs positions doing nothing as a weakness. But “nothing” is exactly what we should be doing sometimes — in moderation. Encourage your loved ones to unplug, log out, switch off and rediscover simple childlike pleasures with a gift as innocent as a coloring book. Crafts or creative activities help recalibrate the mind. After a light session doodling, you’ll come back to more serious tasks with renewed vigor.

2. Fitness Boosters

If you want to show someone how much you love them, give them a yoga mat. It’s the gift that says you want them to be at their peak physically and mentally, with a better chance of living a long, healthy life. You might just sow a seed of inspiration that persuades them to try something new. If you’re already an aficionado of the cobra, cat and downward-facing dog poses, you’ll know that it’s easy to get hooked, and the well-being benefits reveal themselves with each new session.

3. Healthy Treats

Especially around the holiday season, you want to give something that tickles the taste buds and stimulates the appetite. Unfortunately, so many of the festive delicacies pack on the pounds — but not if you stray from the big brands. For example, did you know that chocolate can be healthy, with 100 percent cacao dark chocolate in particular enjoying a renaissance? Or you could introduce someone to the energy-boosting benefits of Yerba Mate Tea, an alternative to coffee that involves its own brewing ritual. The gourd and metal straw set make a distinctive gift that will remind them of you with every brew.

4. Good Energy Starter Pack

Encourage your loved ones to tap into their hidden reserves of energy with a natural healing starter pack. You can compose it yourself from various sources to make one unique gift. Start off with a low-maintenance tropical or desert houseplant to reduce stress levels and filter out toxins in the air. Add in a crystal water bottle so they can hydrate while looking and feeling fabulous. Finish off with some scented candles to fill their home with some spicy, festive aromas like cinnamon and allspice.

5. Next-Level Socks

When it comes to inspirational gift-giving, even socks get their moment. That is, of course, provided they’re stylish-looking compression socks. If you know someone who spends a lot of time on their feet — whether standing up, running or walking — they’ll never forget this gift because the effects are immediate and long-lasting. All you need to know is their shoe size and the comparative width of their calves. Choose from fast-wicking nylon or merino wool for active people, or cotton or nylon for everyday comfort. You can also choose compression levels depending on the person’s level of activity.

One of the toughest challenges we face when choosing gifts is trying to match up the features to the person. With these five gift ideas, that’s no longer an issue. We like to be pampered, we want to feel better and none of us needs much persuasion to try something new from time to time. So before you order a Komodo dragon or Rollerblades online, give some of these a try first.
